The Electrical Trades Union, representing 700 line workers, is demanding a 36-hour workweek and a minimum of 5 per cent annual pay rises. This would bring the pay for WA in line with NSW and South Australia.
The union has also accused Western Power of falling behind on bushfire prevention programs as summer fast approaches. Two giant inflatables have joined the workers this morning – a giant rat named ‘Scabby’ and a corporate fat cat (that is actually a cat). The cat is clutching a money bag for dear life in one hand whilst squeezing the life out of a worker in the other.
They’re making their point well, but it is yet to be seen how it will pay off. 7.35am Perth man arrested over stealing Audi, fleeing police Officers have swarmed a unit complex in Perth this morning, arresting a 26-year-old man following a car chase and manhunt.
The man was arrested in Rivervale after allegedly stealing a silver Audi from a Kewdale home earlier in the week. He was allegedly spotted driving the car by police in Ascot, but he did not stop when asked. Police say he, and a passenger, eventually dumped the car along Great Eastern Highway after a chase, before taking off.
The 26-year-old has been charged with a string of offences including car theft. And in other news, a car has crashed into a tree in Armadale overnight. A 44-year-old driver and 39-year-old passenger were inside but despite the damage to the vehicle, were not seriously injured.

Sticking with the Metronet theme, last night 9 News Perth reported that the project’s construction work in Midland has forced locals to come forward , claiming they have been overcome with fumes relating to the project, that has started to make them dizzy. Also on 9 News, a now 20-year-old woman who was called as a defence witness in the trial of her Floreat parents, who prosecutors say almost killed her by starving her, left court without providing evidence yesterday. She had planned to speak in their support but never made it into the courtroom, with the jury told “there’s been a change of mind”.
