VW Golf driver accused of hitting 212km/h at Maddens Plains

It's the latest in a series of high speed incidents on Illawarra roads.

A man from Woonona has lost his driver's licence after police allegedly caught him driving at more than 200km/h in Maddens Plains. Subscribe now for unlimited access . Login or signup to continue reading He was driving a VW Golf R hatchback on the evening of Wednesday, October 16 when officers spotted him.

"A 46-year-old male from Woonona was detected at 212 km/hr on the M1 Motorway, Maddens Plains being a signed posted 110 km/hr zone," Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers said. "Legal action was taken against the driver which included a six month suspension of his licence and the number plates confiscated for three months." It's the latest in a string of speeding drivers caught on Illawarra roads, including a woman who had two children who were not correctly restrained in her vehicle.



Officers also caught a Tesla at 125km/h in an 80km/h zone in Mount Pleasant, and a 27-year-old speeding at more than 45km/h over the limit at Yallah . One alleged speeding incident resulted in a watery end for a BMW driver recently, after his vehicle left the road, flew through the air and landed in a Jamberoo creek .
