NEW DELHI: The political tussle between the BJP and AAP escalated on Thursday as both parties engaged in a poster war, accusing each other of voter fraud ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly polls . The BJP released a poster targeting AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal , titled "Farzi Voters Se Ishq Hai" (love for fake voters). The poster, inspired by the design of the popular web series 'Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story', replaced the series title with the caption "Voter List Me Scam 2024" (Scam in the Voter List 2024).
In a statement accompanying the poster, the BJP accused Kejriwal of electoral fraud. "Kejriwal's new game in Delhi! Attempt to save power by rigging votes. The house owner did not know, and this fraud had created hundreds of votes on his home address, particularly of a specific community, with ages ranging from 40 to 80 years," the BJP alleged in a social media post.
AAP responds with sharp allegations AAP too, shared a poster featuring BJP leader and Union home minister Amit Shah , accusing the BJP of undermining democracy and tarnishing the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar. The poster read, "Beware Delhiites. In the new year, you have changed your calendar, but BJP has not changed its character.
" AAP also alleged in the poster that the BJP was responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi. AAP also shared a post which portrayed Kejriwal as the 'Greatest of All Time'. War of words intensifies The feud follows AAP’s allegations against the BJP of tampering with Delhi's voter list as part of its so-called "Operation Lotus.
" Kejriwal accused the BJP of orchestrating "unusual voter list modifications," including the removal and addition of voters in the New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal has submitted a formal complaint to the district election officer, urging an investigation into the irregularities. Meanwhile, BJP’s Delhi chief, Virendra Sachdeva, accused the AAP of adding fake voters to the electoral rolls to bolster its support base.
Sachdeva cited voter count increases between the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and subsequent Assembly polls, claiming a similar trend after the 2019 general elections. Kejriwal penned a letter to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday, alleging the BJP was distributing money and deleting names of Purvanchali and Dalit voters to manipulate the electoral process. The BJP dismissed the claims, with party leaders calling Kejriwal's letter a reflection of his "political frustration" and "fear of defeat" in the upcoming elections.
