Volvo South Africa has announced three new incentives as part of a local promotional push for people to buy its electric vehicles. One of the incentives is a full year of free public charging. Volvo SA is also gearing up for the launch of the EX90 in early 2025.

While more new electric vehicles are being introduced locally with each passing month, and the segment has shown signs of growth recently, South African motorists always need a carrot dangled in front of them when purchasing a new product. In the case of Volvo South Africa, that carrot is three-pronged, as the Swedish carmaker has announced some new incentives for those who purchase one of its EVs before the end of Q4 2024. These benefits as Volvo terms them apply to any new fully electric vehicle purchased in the final three months of this year.

The benefits are: One year of free public charging, Two years of comprehensive vehicle insurance, Three years of complimentary in-car data. “Volvo is already at the forefront of South Africa’s new-energy vehicle space and is responsible for much of the recent growth in the fully electric segment. This new offer is the latest illustration of our commitment to our customers which will provide the most value to their EV ownership experience,” enthused Markus Cromwell , commercial director at Volvo Car South Africa, in a release shared with Hypertext.

As for the options, the EX30, the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge are highlighted by the Swedish outfit, with the recently launched EX30 being the standout for its pricing and performance. “As one of the market’s most competitively priced and thus accessible battery-powered vehicles, the EX30 has already proven exceptionally popular with local buyers. In fact, it is South Africa’s best-selling EV, year to date,” the company added.

Should you be eyeing up something larger, but still fully electric, Volvo has also pointed out that its recently unveiled flagship EX90 is slated to arrive in South Africa early next year. While the same promotion would not apply, perhaps the company will have something extra in store for local customers when the EX90 does land. “The highly anticipated fully electric EX90 flagship is expected to launch locally in early 2025, with the first customer vehicles scheduled to arrive towards the end of the second quarter of next year.

The new EX90 is due to slot in at the top of Volvo Car SA’s exclusively electrified line-up, which comprises mild hybrids, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and EVs,” it pointed out. You can check out the EX90 in the video embedded below. [Image – Provided].
