Volleyball roundup: Top-ranked Albany Huskies handle NLS Wildcats

Prep volleyball report for Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, in west central Minnesota. Hannah Klein, Ellery Ehresmann pace Albany in 3-0 victory; Willmar, Paynesville, BBE, CMCS, MACCRAY, Minnewaska all winners

NEW LONDON — Albany’s Hannah Klein and Ellery Ehresmann posed problems Tuesday for the New London-Spicer volleyball team. Klein, a senior outside hitter committed to the Division I South Dakota State University, and Ehresmann, a senior setter, led the top-ranked (Class AA) Huskies to a sweep of NLS. Both are back for their senior campaigns after All-State junior seasons.

The Huskies, who are 15-0 this season, won 25-15, 25-9 and 25-19 in the non-conference matchup. Albany cruised in its second set victory, taking an 11-0 lead before closing out the set. For the Wildcats, junior setter Taylor Munsch dished out 10 set assists.



NLS’ top kill contributors were Piper Barney, Ava Carlson and Katelyn Delzer. The three each had four kills. Grayce Reigstad, a senior libero, recorded nine of the Wildcats’ 31 digs.

NLS plays Watertown-Mayer as it returns to Wright County Conference play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Watertown.

Non-conference Albany 3, NLS 0 Paynesville 3, Litchfield 0 The Bulldogs fended off Litchfield late to secure a non-conference victory at Paynesville. Finley Anfinson led the way for the Bulldogs. The senior middle blocker had 11 kills, followed by six from Emma Kolstad and five more from Kaydence Roeske.

Rayna Spanier recorded 29 set assists in pacing Paynesville. Grace Roberg had 24 digs. Grace Holmgren recorded a double-double for the Dragons with 11 set assists and 10 digs.

Claire Holmgren had a team-high eight kills for Litchfield. The Bulldogs host Royalton in a Central Minnesota Conference match at 7 p.m.

Thursday at Paynesville. Litchfield plays Dassel-Cokato in a Wright County Conference match at 7 p.m.

Thursday at Cokato. Kacey Fischer and Kadynce Haider both had eight kills in Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s sweep of Brandon-Evansville at Brandon. Kamie Fischer tacked on a double-double for the Jaguars.

The sophomore setter/right-side hitter had 12 set assists and 10 digs. Kylie Weller, a senior setter, dished out a team-best 19 set assists for BBE. Ava Deters had a team-best 13 digs.

The Jaguars return to Central Minnesota Conference play against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at 7 p.m. Thursday at Brooten.

Central Lakes Willmar 3, Brainerd 0 Brielle Ogdahl led a versatile Willmar attack with 10 kills in helping the Cardinals secure a conference win at Brainerd. Nora Mitteness and Gretchen Volk posted eight and seven kills behind Ogdahl’s lead. Avery Olson tacked on six, followed by four each from Ellery DeBoer and Maddie Molacek.

DeBoer, a sophomore setter, dished out 28 set assists for the Cardinals. Willmar continues conference play when it hosts Alexandria at 7 p.m.

Thursday at Willmar. Camden Minneota 3, LQPV 0 Jalyn Lee tallied 12 digs and nine kills in Lac qui Parle Valley’s loss to the Vikings at Minneota. Similarly to Lee, Maya Sawatzky neared a double-double for the Eagles.

The eighth-grade setter had 17 set assists and eight digs. Sammarah Sepinon, a senior setter/right-side hitter, tacked on 10 digs for LQPV. The Eagles host Lakeview for a conference match at 7:15 p.

m. Thursday at Madison. CMCS 3, YME 0 Sienna Duininck notched 24 set assists in Central Minnesota Christian School’s quick work of Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

Reece Duininck and Maddy Vander Ark joined Sienna Duininck as CMCS’ top kill getters. All three recorded seven kills. Aurora Rosen anchored the Bluejays’ stout defense with 15 digs.

CMCS continues conference play against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Prinsburg.

YME plays Dawson-Boyd for a conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dawson.

MACCRAY 3, RCW 2 A back-and-forth match ended in MACCRAY’s favor as the Wolverines beat Renville County West in five sets at Renville. Emma Thein had a MACCRAY-best 20 kills along with 17 digs and three ace serves. Brielle Janssen followed up with 19 kills, three ace serves, two ace blocks and 14 digs.

Mia Post tallied 30 digs in the victory. Mackenna Hinderks and Holly Hinderks contributed 16 and 10 kills for the Jaguars. Holly Hinderks tacked on a team-best 22 digs en route to a double-double.

Johanna Braun had 41 set assists for RCW. She is a senior setter. MACCRAY plays in the Minnesota High School Volleyball Showcase tournament starting at 4:30 p.

m. Friday at the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse in Burnsville. The Jaguars continue conference play at Ortonville at 7:15 p.

m. Thursday. Lakeview 3, KMS 0 Three tight sets all ended in Lakeview’s favor as the Lakers beat Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at Cottonwood.

Maddie Luft led the Fighting Saints with 14 kills. Savannah Petersen tacked on nine and Emily Wagner had seven. Wagner paced KMS’ defense with a team-best 14 digs.

Ava Noble dished out 34 set assists and had nine digs for the Fighting Saints. KMS hosts Canby for a conference match and parent’s night at 7 p.m.

Thursday at Kerkhoven. Canby 3, Dawson-Boyd 0 Reese Johnson had seven kills in Dawson-Boyd’s defeat by the Lancers at Canby. Bailey Bothun recorded 12 set assists for the Blackjacks, who host a conference match against Yellow Medicine East at 7:15 p.

m. Thursday. West Central Minnewaska 3, Benson 0 Mya VanLuik led Minnewaska’s attack in a sweep over Benson at Glenwood.

VanLuik, a freshman outside hitter, finished with nine kills along with eight digs and two ace blocks. Haillie Schulz dished out 24 set assists for the Lakers. Sophie Krusemark notched 15 digs for Benson.

Mya McGeary and Carly Tolifson both had nine. Minnewaska plays West Central Area for a conference match at 7:15 p.m.

Thursday at Barrett. The Braves go to Montevideo as conference play continues at 7:15 p.m.

Thursday. WCA 3, BOLD 0 BOLD was unable to defend its home court, getting swept by West Central Area at Olivia. Zoey Lippert finished with 15 kills and 11 digs for the Warriors.

Kenley Elfering had 26 set assists and Lilly Henriksen scooped up 15 digs.BOLD plays Sauk Centre as it continues conference play at 7:15 p.m.

Thursday at Sauk Centre. Morris/CA 3, Montevideo 0 Morris/Chokio-Alberta swept Montevideo in a West Central Conference road match at Montevideo. Jillian Magnuson and Jessa Norby each had three kills for the Thunder Hawks.

Megan Koosman finished with 13 set assists in the loss. The Thunder Hawks host Benson for a conference match at 7:15 p.m.
