BELGRADE — Kacey Fischer had it going early and often to help spring the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa volleyball team to a sweep of MACCRAY in front of a considerable crowd on Friday afternoon. BBE, which was led by Kacey Fischer’s 17 kills, earned 25-19, 25-22 and 25-23 wins over the Wolverines. The victory caps off a three-win opening week for the Jaguars, who are 3-0.

“This group is hungry,” BBE first-year head coach Brittany Borgerding said. “A lot of them are returners from last year and they were not happy with how that season ended.” Kacey Fischer, who is coming off an All-Central Minnesota Conference First Team season, notched 11 of her team-high 17 kills in the first set.

The junior outside hitter also contributed 11 digs to the Jaguars’ 50 total. “I’m just doing my best for my team and always having their back too,” Kacey Fischer said. “We did a very good job of adjusting to where their block was.

” BBE made it tough for MACCRAY to get into a rhythm and find open gaps. The Jaguars held star junior middle blocker Brielle Janssen to nine kills and junior outside/right-side hitter Emma Thein, who’s coming off an All-Camden sophomore season, to 14 kills. “(MACCRAY) is a very good (Class A) team.

We knew we had to shut down their outside (Thein) and their middle (Janssen),” Borgerding said. “We adjusted our defense to make sure we had their shots covered, and then, we just had to play our game and keep our intensity.” Kamie Fischer, a sophomore setter/right-side hitter, and Kylie Weller, a senior setter, worked in tandem before dishing out 33 set assists.

Kamie Fischer recorded 23 set assists with six digs and five kills. Weller added 10 set assists. Adley Hagen and Kadynce Haider were effective in support roles behind Kacey Fischer.

Hagen, a senior outside hitter, contributed nine kills, nine digs and two ace serves. Haider, a junior middle blocker, had eight kills. “We have a lot of flexibility on our team,” Kacey Fischer said.

“A lot of people can play all over the place, so that helps us.” BBE hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 7 p.m.
