The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch a pioneering American communications satellite, which is expected to revolutionise satellite telephony. This breakthrough will enable phone calls through direct connectivity from space, offering a more advanced and seamless service compared to traditional satellite communication systems. This launch marks a significant milestone for both ISRO and the American space industry.
It will be the first time an American company’s large communications satellite is launched from India using an Indian rocket. In the past, India has been involved in launching small satellites for American entities, but this marks a new era of cooperation between the two nations in the field of space exploration and technology. India's Science and Technology Minister, Dr.
Jitendra Singh, announced that a US mobile communication satellite will be launched by ISRO in February or March, enabling voice communication on mobile phones. While the satellite operator hasn't been officially confirmed, experts suggest AST SpaceMobile, a Texas-based company, as the likely candidate for the launch. “In February or March we will be launching a US satellite for mobile communication, this satellite will enable voice communication on mobile phones.
It will be an interesting mission," an NDTV report quoted as saying Dr Jitendra Singh, the minister of science and technology. This could have widespread applications, particularly in remote or underserved areas where traditional terrestrial infrastructure is limited or non-existent.
The satellite will not only enhance mobile connectivity in remote regions but also offer a more reliable and cost-effective solution for global communications. This collaboration between ISRO and the American company is expected to further cement India’s position as a key player in the global space industry. ISRO has already demonstrated its ability to launch satellites for various countries, and this upcoming mission will showcase India’s capacity to handle larger, more complex satellite launches.
