Elder Vogel was leading the way to another term in the state Senate. Vogel, a four-term incumbent, represents the 47th District which encompasses parts of Lawrence, Beaver and Butler counties. As of press time Tuesday, the Republican secured more votes in Lawrence and Butler counties over Democrat Kate Lennen and was leading in the polls in Beaver County over his Democratic challenger Kate Lennen.
According to unofficial election results, Vogel won Lawrence County 6,219 to 2,529 and Butler County 32,848 to 19,081. With 58 of 129 precincts reporting in Beaver County, Vogel was leading Lennen 20,633 to 9,388. “It’s very humbling, so many people putting their trust and faith in you,” Vogel said.
“It’s humbling to be reelected.” Story continues below video Efforts to reach Lennen for comment were unsuccessful. In Lawrence County, the 47th District includes the boroughs of Ellwood City, Ellport, Enon Valley, New Beaver and Wampum and Little Beaver, Perry and Wayne townships.
Vogel said he is set to introduce new legislative proposals in the Senate in January, but said for now he is focused on fiscal responsibility in the commonwealth, building up the state’s rainy day fund and continuing to fund programs for education and senior citizens. Lennen, an attorney with Myers Law Group LLC, focused her campaign on more funding for public education, a $15 minimum wage, common sense gun legislation and opposing a statewide limit on abortion access. nvercilla@ncnewsonline.
