Vodafone Idea shares in focus as Q2 loss narrows to Rs 7,176 crore

Vodafone Idea reported a smaller loss of Rs 7,176 crore in the September quarter compared to last year. Revenue rose to Rs 10,932 crore. The company's EBITDA improved, reaching Rs 4,550 crore. Vodafone Idea's subscriber base decreased slightly, but postpaid customers increased. JPMorgan maintained a neutral rating on the company's stock.

Vodafone Idea shares will be in focus on Thursday after the company reported a reduced net loss of Rs 7,176 crore for the September quarter of FY25, compared to Rs 8,738 crore in the same period last year. Revenue from operations increased by 2% year-on-year to Rs 10,932 crore. On a sequential basis, loss has widened from Rs 6432 crore posted in the preceding June quarter.

Meanwhile, revenues improved 4% quarter-on-quarter, aided by the recent tariff hikes undertaken by all private operators. EBITDA for the quarter increased to Rs 4550 crore in the reporting quarter. This compares with Rs 4283 crore in the last year quarter.



Cash EBITDA excluding Ind AS 116 impact improved to Rs 2320 crore, highest since the merger, growing by 10% QoQ. Capex spending for Q2FY25 was at Rs 1360 crore as against Rs 760 crore in the preceding June quarter. The expected capex for H2FY25 is Rs 8000 crore.

The debt from banks and financial institutions reduced by Rs 4580 crore billion during the last one year and stood at Rs 3250 crore. The cash and bank balance of the telco stood at Rs 13620 crore, as of September 2024. It also noted that capital expenditure is expected to pick up in the second half of the year. Additionally, JPMorgan pointed out that the stock's future movement would largely depend on the management’s statements regarding updates on debt funding.
