Vadodara: The top brass of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) came together and conducted an inspection on Saturday to review the ongoing resectioning work of the Vishwamitri river. However, they faced criticism after internal divisions became apparent, with different officials visiting the same inspection site at different times. The controversy began when mayor Pinky Soni scheduled a visit to the river near VUDA Circle on Wednesday to assess the progress.
A message about her visit was circulated in advance. However, before she arrived, VMC standing committee chairman Sheetal Mistry and commissioner Dilip Kumar Rana inspected the site earlier that day. They left soon after Soni arrived.
Frustrated by the incident, Soni addressed the media, raising concerns about protocol and emphasizing that other officials were aware of her scheduled visit. The city unit of the BJP took the matter seriously and instructed VMC functionaries to prevent such incidents in the future and uphold the dignity of the mayor's office. Following the reprimand, another visit was planned to inspect work in the Kalali area.
This time, the message explicitly mentioned that the mayor would be accompanied by other functionaries, unlike Wednesday's message, which had no such clarification. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Soni, who had earlier criticized the situation, took a reconciliatory tone, stating that VMC functioned as a family and worked together. She emphasized that both elected representatives and the administration were committed to the public's welfare and that their priority was the timely completion of the project.
