MANILA, Philippines – Listed Vivant Corp., an energy and water conglomerate, will continue to power Busuanga and Coron through a new 15-year power supply deal that is seen to support the islands’ growing tourism sector. In a statement on Tuesday, Vivant said Calamian Islands Power Corp.

(CIPC) was again tapped to supply electricity to Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative Inc. (Biselco). The first power supply agreement between the two was sealed in 2011.

READ: Vivant income rose 4% in 2024 to P2.4B The new agreement, it said, involves a 24-megawatt (MW) contracted capacity for Busuanga and Coron, which are among the country’s popular tourist destinations. Vivant has yet to respond when asked about the previously contracted capacity.

But it said that the new pact covers additional capacity to address rising energy demand from both the residential and business sectors. “This new PSA will bring great opportunity for the Calamian Group of Islands for its infrastructure development. It will pave the way for a continuous and reliable power supply, ensuring fully lit households and businesses throughout Calamian,” Biselco general manager Ruth Fortes said.

Before CIPC came into play, Vivant said that the Busuanga Island had suffered “daily brownouts lasting 4-6 hours, limiting economic activity and hindering development.” CIPC president Eric Omamalin, meanwhile, was confident that their continuous collaboration would help “support economic growth” on the islands. In November 2024, Vivant said its subsidiary Delta P.

Inc. also secured a 15-year contract to supply electricity to the popular tourist destination of Palawan. The signed power supply agreement with Palawan Electric Cooperative involved 40 MW of capacity.

The auction was conducted through the National Electrification Administration. Subscribe to our daily newsletter By providing an email address. I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy .
