A viral bagel brand that has won over everyone from New York foodies to Martha Stewart herself, has announced major expansion plans. And it's really good news for PopUp Bagels fans on the West Coast. The cult-favorite chain, which is famous for its “Grip, Rip and Dip” approach to bagel eating, is bringing the experience to Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego through new franchise partnerships.
In total, a whopping 35 new locations are planned across the Golden State. The brand signed deals with Sweetzer Capital’s James Marzouk to open 25 stores in LA and Orange County. It also signed up with Paul Goodman and Griffin Thall, known as The Bagel Boyz, to launch 10 stores in San Diego County.
Read more food stories These stores will roll out over the next few years as PopUp Bagels deepens its national footprint. “California has always been a key market in our growth strategy,” said Tory Bartlett, CEO of PopUp Bagels. “We’re thrilled to partner with people who are not only experienced operators but also deeply connected to their local communities.
” Known for keeping things simple, PopUp Bagels serves whole, oven-hot bagels that are meant to be torn and dipped. Most read in Money Each shop typically spans 1,100 square feet and is placed in high-footfall neighborhoods to match the brand’s casual, communal vibe. “As an LA native, introducing a New York-style bagel concept with such a strong identity to my hometown is incredibly meaningful,” said James Marzouk.
“We’re targeting areas that match the brand’s energy and culture.” Meanwhile, in San Diego, the excitement is just as strong. “Whether you’re grabbing a dozen for your neighbors or bringing some to the beach, it’s about creating delicious, shared moments," said Paul Goodman of The Bagel Boyz.
Originally launched in Westport, Connecticut, by founder Adam Goldberg, PopUp Bagels quickly became an East Coast phenomenon. It has earned accolades for its perfectly baked bagels and rotating schmears made in collaboration with top chefs and brands. Celebrities such as Martha Stewart, Donald Glover, and Cara Delivigne all consider themselves to be huge fans of the bakery.
