Vincent Kompany addresses why Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller was not started against Inter Milan

Bayern Munich faced Inter Milan in the first leg of quarterfinal of the Champions League . Facing one of the best defensive sides in Europe is not easy — and the results indicated just that. The Bavarians lost 2-1 at home with a lone goal, courtesy of Thomas Müller.

The major question on everyone’s minds was — why was Müller not started? Kompany addressed such questions per @ iMiaSanMia , assuring that the decision to not start him was purely a footballing decision. “We know that Thomas Müller always plays an important role for us. He came on, did well and scored a goal.

He brought a good moment for us. The decision [not to start him] was purely a footballing decision,” he stated. It now remains imperative that the Bavarians start Müller in the upcoming away fixture.

The Raumdeuter is among the very few with the experience of facing such teams, having faced Inter multiple times in his career. He has the capacity to breathe life into the attack and threaten an otherwise conservative Inter side. As it seems, it might be the Raumdeuter driving his side into Finale Dahoam 2025 before the curtains fall.

Isn’t it ironic that a seemingly aging star who the club is in the process of phasing out now carries the hopes of Bayern qualifying to get through the Champions Final?
