Vijaypur bypolls election 2024: BJP's Ramniwas Rawat against Congress' Mukesh Malhotra

Vote counting for the Vijaypur assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh began on Saturday with BJP's Ramniwas Rawat facing off against Congress's Mukesh Malhotra. The by-election was called after Rawat switched from the Congress party to the BJP earlier this year. A high voter turnout of 77.85 percent was recorded in the November 13th polling.

The counting of votes for Vijaypur assembly bypolls in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh began at 8 am on Saturday. The counting of votes for the Vijaypur assembly is held at the Government Polytechnic College, Sheopur, as per officials. The vote counting for the Vijaypur seat will be carried out in 21 rounds for 327 polling stations in the assembly area, with 16 tables set up for the process.

He was subsequently appointed as a minister in the Mohan Yadav cabinet. In the last assembly elections in 2023, Ramiwas Rawat of Congress secured his win with 69,646 votes against BJP's Babulal Mevra.

Previously, in the assembly elections of 2018, BJP’s Seetaram emerged as the winner securing 34.86 per cent votes against Ramniwas Rawat of the Indian National Congress who fell short of 2,040 votes..
