'Bunny meet and greet' fundraiser provides close contact

A "Bunny Meet & Greet" fundraising event at Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley was a sellout, with parents and kids lining up for an opportunity for a close encounter with the furry, cuddly critters on Saturday, April 12. "They're so cute," ensued one small visitor, wearing provided bunny ears and smiling as she dangled a bit of lettuce to get a rabbit to come within petting distance. It was organized in partnership with Vancouver Rabbit Rescue & Advocacy (VRRA), a volunteer-run registered charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming rabbits across the Lower Mainland.

Running fro 11 a.m. to 3 p.

m., the event raised funds for the group. All of the funds raised from the $10 admission charge went to support the group's rescue and care efforts.

VRRA president Olga Betts viewed it as a good way for people to learn "that a rabbit is a very nice animal, a nice pet to have in your house." Like cats, they can be litter box trained, so "they're really good for apartment dwellers and people who work, because they're mostly active mornings and evenings," Betts said. "They can hop around the house with you, sit on the couch, sleep on the bed.

They're very clean and they're quiet." One very cute, very fluffy white rabbit named Dotty ended up temporarily in the arms of Nicole Lotz, director of marketing at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, as she introduced the bunny to some of the wide-eyed kids lined up outside the storefront, which had been transformed into a bunny playpen. It was an opportunity for people "to come down and meet them and feed them and snuggle with them for a little bit.

" said Lotz. Willowbrook is also hosting Easter Bunny visits until April 19 in the shopping centre's Easter garden..
