Celebrations turned tragic in Maharashtra's Chandgad on Saturday night as Independent candidate Shivaji Patil, who won the Assembly election, was injured in a fire during his victory festivities. According to an eyewitness, a group of women who were part of a procession also sustained injuries in the incident, PTI reported. A video of the event has since gone viral on social media.

The fire broke out while the women were performing a traditional ‘aarti’ in Mahgaon to celebrate Patil’s win. A large amount of gulal (coloured powder) was being showered from a crane onto the gathering when it fell onto the 'aarti' plates, igniting a blaze. Both Patil and several women were burned in the fire.



Warning: Viewer discretion advised Patil, who contested the election as an Independent, defeated NCP’s Rajesh Patil by 24,134 votes in the Chandgad constituency of western Maharashtra. The November 20 Assembly elections saw a significant turnout in the region, with voter participation reaching 74.61%, compared to 68.

64% in 2019. In that election, Rajesh Patil of the NCP had claimed victory. In the broader context of the elections, the Mahayuti alliance retained power, winning 234 of the 288 seats.

The MVA coalition secured 49 seats, with the remaining 4 going to other parties. Among the Mahayuti partners, the BJP achieved the highest success, winning 132 out of 149 seats it contested. Its ally, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), secured 57 out of 87 seats, while the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) won 41 out of 59 seats.

The MVA alliance suffered a severe defeat, with the Congress winning just 16 out of 101 seats. Shiv Sena (UBT) also struggled, securing only 20 out of 95 contested seats, while the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) took a mere 10 out of 86 seats.
