Pop superstar Victoria Beckham cut out two things from her diet because she so "so uncomfortable" about having Scoring six UK number one singles in a row with her first half-dozen releases as part of , and marrying one of the country's most eligible bachelors when she was 25, might seem to have plenty to feel confident about. But the woman formerly known as Posh Spice told : "Probably I did look stern in a lot of pictures, but I was so uncomfortable,. It was because of my skin that I became very careful about what I ate.

" Not only does Victoria, who turns 51 today (Thursday, April 17) , but she has cut out wheat too, only using cassava flour. Victoria's husband revealed in a River Café podcast that he had only over seen her eat "grilled fish and steamed vegetables," as part of her quest for perfect skin. Acne affects almost everyone, to an extent, in their teenage years but some unlucky people continue to suffer well into adulthood.

Skin breakouts are triggered by a combination of factors including hormonal imbalances, reactions to certain medications and skin products. Chronic acne also tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic link. Breakouts can be minimised by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.

They're packed with antioxidants that help reduce cell damage. A rich in lean protein such as fish, tofu and chickpeas can also promote the skin's natural ability repair and renew collagen. Alongside her own rigid diet, Victoria spends 30 minutes every morning with a Dermalux "light therapy" device that promises to stimulate collagen production and reduce inflammation with a combination of red and infrared light.

Experts say the jury is out on whether the £2,000 device can have a real impact, with Harley Street dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk telling the Daily Mail: "Studies in a clinic or hospital setting suggest that LED use may contribute to a clearer, more radiant complexion, though at-home LED devices produce modest improvements at best." She adds that cutting out sugary foods and refined carbohydrates, such white bread, white rice, and pasta can help prevent skin breakouts, but "there's no one-size-fits-all solution." Victoria has tried everything, she says: "From LED lights to dermaplaning and masking, my skincare routine is extensive.

" Following the launch of her own signature skincare brand, VB Beauty, with its focus on "clean" beauty, Victoria has gone for a more minimal makeup look in her personal life. She said: "If you'd told me a few years ago I'd step on to a red carpet to pick up an award wearing only a bit of concealer and no foundation, I'd have thought you were mad, but that's what I did last week." She adds that the whole Beckham clan was involve in the testing of her skincare range, even her 13-year-old "Tomboy" daughter Harper "She's a tomboy really, although she has every skincare product under the sun.

" David, too, has been one of his wife's guinea-pigs, testing out her new Portofino hand cream. "So many get tacky in the humidity or they're so greasy you want to wash them off the minute you've put them on, or the fragrance is so strong it puts you off your food," Victoria says, but he has become a regular Portofino user. "That's praise, let me tell you.
