This is in reference to the letter “Greedy Physician” by Ikram Baloch (Dawn, February 25), which rightly addressed the issue of physicians who prioritise profit over patient care. Such doctors are not only greedy, but also alarmingly negligent—at times even forgetting surgical tools inside patients after operations. My uncle has undergone five kidney surgeries, yet his condition remains critical due to doctors’ carelessness.
He is now hospitalised again for another operation. If this continues, we risk losing our loved ones to avoidable medical errors. During a recent hospital visit for my brother’s kidney issue, I personally witnessed doctors treating seriously ill patients with shocking indifference.
The government must act urgently to regulate hospitals, ensure inspections, and enforce accountability. Hospitals should be equipped with basic necessities like oxygen cylinders and adequate beds. Doctors must be warned against negligence and held responsible for their actions.
