Login Global ratings agency Fitch has warned that ballooning state government debt fuelled by massive infrastructure spending in Victoria and NSW is putting Australia’s credit rating at risk. State deficits had “risen sharply in recent years” and were becoming increasingly important in Fitch’s assessment of Australia’s fiscal position, adding pressure to Australia’s AAA credit rating over the medium term, the agency said.
