S. Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer and U.

Brig. Gen. Mitch Johnson, adjutant general of the North Dakota National Guard, was the keynote speaker.

"Today, we honor veterans across our state and nation for their incredible service and contributions to the security of the world," Cramer said. "It is easy to take their service for granted because we live so well and have the luxury of peace every single day." Veterans Day is formerly Armistice Day, Nov.

11, the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The federal legal holiday, observed on the fourth Monday in October during the mid-1970s, reverted to Nov. 11 in 1978.
