Sean Dyche’s side sit at the foot of the league after three consecutive defeats and the mood is low at Goodison Park, particularly after surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Bournemouth before the international break. Pundit and host Cascarino reviewed the Toffees’ start to the season live on , claiming the club is in trouble this season. He said: “My biggest concern with what I have witnessed with Everton, they have conceded 10 goals in three games.

And they haven’t played, in my mind, very elite teams. “Obviously, Brighton are a very good side but conceded three. Spurs, they conceded four and Bournemouth they conceded three.

“So they have conceded ten goals, and that is...

We always sort of pride ourselves on thinking that Everton are going to survive because defensively you think they are quite stubborn. “Going through three games with ten goals conceded, that would be very concerning.” Dyche has built his Everton side around a strong defensive structure.

Still, the squad looks a far cry from the side that conceded 51 goals last term with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal only conceding fewer goals in 2023-24. Jarrad Branthwaite has been a massive loss to the Blues in the early stages of the season and . Dyche must find the solution to his current defensive woes among his available options.

Now with [ ] on Saturday [14 September], it will be a while longer before Dyche can select his strongest defensive unit in the league. The Everton defenders need to step up in the next few weeks and help drag the side out of the relegation zone. A respite from club duties over the international break has provided a much-needed distraction from the chaos ensuing at Goodison Park.

However, after conceding 10 goals in three matches, it doesn’t look promising for the Blues. Despite scoring against Bournemouth, Michael Keane has been poor and his teammates Vitali Mykolenko, Ashley Young and surprisingly James Tarkowski haven’t performed much better. It is time for Dyche to bring new signing Jake O’Brien into the starting lineup in the hopes that he can make a difference to the Everton defence until Branthwaite returns to the side in the coming weeks.
