Verbal duel at Parliament panel meet on Waqf Bill

A legal expert and AIMPLB representatives opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 during a parliamentary panel discussion. A verbal duel ensued between BJP member Medha Kulkarni and legal expert Faizan Mustafa. The Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz suggested several amendments to the bill, while AIMPLB and Mustafa expressed their opposition.

New Delhi: A legal expert and representatives of AIMPLB appeared before the parliamentary panel of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, and opposed the bill. During the deliberation members of the Joint Committee on Waqf (Amendment) Bill were also engaged in a verbal duel, sources said. The verbal duel started when BJP member Medha Kulkarni was asking questions on the composition of the Waqf Governing Council to legal expert Faizan Mustafa who appeared before the committee on Thursday.

Mustafa is the Vice Chancellor of Patna's Chanakya National Law University . Kulkarni demanded an apology from the opposition member, which was initially turned down. The opposition member later expressed regret to Kulkarni in the presence of Committee chairman Jagadambika Pal and BJP member Aparajita Sarangi .

Both Professor Mustafa as well as the AIMPLB have opposed the legislation. While representatives of Pasmanda organisation suggested several amendments in the bill.
