Vehari admin launches crackdown against overcharging by transporters

Vehari - On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Imrana Tauqeer, a robust crackdown was launched across all three tehsils of Vehari—Vehari, Mailsi, and Burewala—against overcharging in public transport and the sale of overpriced meat. Assistant Commissioners conducted visits to bus stands and meat markets, gathered complaints directly from the public, and took immediate action on-site.Assistant Commissioner Vehari Ghazala Kanwal, Assistant Commissioner Mailsi Khalil Ahmad, and Assistant Commissioner Burewala Malik Farooq inspected fare lists displayed on buses at various bus stands and inquired from passengers whether they were being charged according to the official rates.

Transporters found guilty of overcharging were fined heavily, amounting to millions of rupees, and the extra fares collected from passengers were immediately refunded. Similarly, surprise inspections were carried out in meat markets across the three tehsils. Butchers selling meat at prices higher than the government’s fixed rates faced strict action, with heavy fines imposed on violators.



They were also instructed to adhere strictly to the officially approved prices.In preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr, all three Assistant Commissioners remained present at markets and bus stands throughout the day to ensure that the public received necessary facilities without any inconvenience. These efforts were widely appreciated by the citizens, who lauded Deputy Commissioner Imrana Tauqeer’s dynamic leadership.

The district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing overpricing and overcharging. Strict actions will continue against violators, and immediate responses will be ensured to public complaints. Citizens are urged to report any incidents of fare violations or price gouging so that prompt action can be taken to protect consumer rights.
