VB Sweeps It Way To First Victory Of 2024 Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team swept its way to its first victory of the 2024 season on Friday night in Carmichael Arena, downing Cleveland State in straight sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-17).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team swept its way to its first victory of the 2024 season on Friday night in Carmichael Arena, downing Cleveland State in straight sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-17).

Senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster opened her senior season with a bang, tallying a match-best 15 kills on a .519 clip, the second-highest hitting percentage in her career. Junior libero Maddy May was all over the court defensively with 19 digs, matching the most she's had in a three-set match in career.



The Tar Heels' newcomers shined in their Carolina blue debut. Graduate setter Taylor Eisert tallied the first double-double of the season, dishing out 17 assists and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Jackie Taylor and redshirt sophomore opposite hitter Chelsea Thorpe each contributed seven kills, while freshman defensive specialist Julia Bohlinger racked up seven digs.

As a team, Carolina outhit Cleveland State .336 to .118, with the offense racking up 50 kills to just 25 from the Vikings.
