On the third day of Navratri, devotees invoke Maa Chandraghanta, a serene form of Maa Parvati. Worshippers wear yellow and clean their houses, focusing on positive energy. Image Source: Freepik On the third day of Navratri ( Gauri Puja ), Maa Chandraghanta , who signifies peace, calm and serenity is invoked. The married form of Maa Parvati is Maa Chandraghanta. As Maa Mahagauri married Lord Shiva, She started gracing the crescent (moon) on Her forehead with a crescent and came to be known as Goddess Chandraghanta.

Riding a tigress and holding 10 hands, four right hands holding a lotus flower, an arrow, Dhanush and Japa Mala, the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra and the fifth left hand in Varada Mudra. It is said that Maa Chandraghanta is Maa Parvati in Her tranquil form. The sound of the moon and the bell on Her forehead are said to drive away all kinds of spirits from Her devotees.



Legend has it that the sound of Her bell has vanquished many demons during battles, sending them to the abode of the God of Death. Ma Chandraghanta's body shines in gilden radiance and She rides on a lion. With ten hands equipped with various war weapons, She is also known as Ranchandi.

Towards Her left, She carries a club (Gada), a sword, a trident, and a karmandal in Her four hands respectively as the fifth hand is raised to bless Her devotees. On Her right, She holds an arrow, a bow, a rosary, and the tenth hand is placed in a manner as if granting fearlessness to Her worshipers. It is auspicious to dress up in yellow on the third day of Navratre and worship Maa Chandraghanta, as this has a profound effect on uplifting spirits and elevating happiness.

The image of bravery, as the frightful sound of Maa Chandraghanta's bell terrifies all villains and demonic incarnations, She is depicted holding weapons such as a trident, sword, and bow and arrow, that signify Her energy that defends and protects Her devotees. She helps us overcome fear, defeat enemies, and emerge victorious in difficult situations. By worshipping Mata Chandraghanta, we seek courage, strength, and protection from negative forces.

Before the Navratre begin,clean your house, oganise the space and discard obsolete articles. In red (roli), yellow (turmeric) and white (rice flour), make a Swastik on the main entrance door of your house as it attracts good luck and repels negative energies. Keeping the puja area clean and clutter-free pleases Goddess Durga .

Northeast (istana kon) of the room is the best area to place Maa Durga's idol upon a wooden plinth. During Navratri puja, one should face the east and north direction while praying. This helps attract success and courage.

Navratre should begin with a Kalash full of clean water, topped with a coconut and adorned by mango leaves. The Kalash helps improve communication and promotes harmony. Also, one should invoke the energy of the Akhand Jyoti (ghee lamp) in the mandir as it harnesses good fortune and inner peace.

Tulsi plant in the northeast corner of the house strikes harmony, invokes peace and prosperity. As per Vastu Shastra, the sound of blowing conch shells and ringing bells generates positive energy and pleases the Gods.
