Varun Chakaravarthy copied Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul’s now-famous ‘This Is My Ground’ gesture after helping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their den, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Friday (April 11). Chakaravarthy , who hails from Tamil Nadu and has spent most of his domestic career in Chepauk, couldn’t hold back his laughter as he pointed his fingers to his chest and then to the ground. The clip seemed from after the match during the customary handshakes in the visiting team’s pavilion.

It has gone viral on social media. Watch it here: KKR beat CSK comfortably by eight wickets. They bowled out the hosts for just 103/9 — their lowest-ever total at home — and Chakaravarthy contributed the wickets of Tamil Nadu teammate Vijay Shankar and Impact Playe Deepak Hooda in his brilliant spell of 2/22.

In the second innings, Sunil Narine top-scored with 44 (18) as KKR chased the total down in just 10.1 overs, ruining MS Dhoni’s return as the team’s captain. Rahul started this trend on Thursday.

He hit a match-winning 93* (53) to help his new team Delhi Capitals beat his home franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After the winning shot, he put his bat on the ground like a sword and screamed in celebration. Rahul explained after that match that it was inspired by Kannada movie Kantara.

“This is a special place for me. That celebration was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. So, ya, just a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this home is where I have grown up and that this is mine," KL Rahul said after the match to DC’s social media channels.

“This is my ground, this is my home. I know this better than anybody else," the India international said at the post-match interview. “I knew what my shots are.

Just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially and assess it from there. If I was trying to hit a big six, I knew what pockets to target," he added.
