Residents are living in fear after vandals “ran rampage” through their town

Residents are living in fear after vandals with rocks and bricks “ran rampage” through their town. Several Peacehaven residents reported having rocks thrown at their windows in the early hours of Saturday, March 8. One homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, described the shocking moments a rock smashed through their bedroom window, shattering glass across the room where they’d been sleeping.

They said: “It was about 3.45 in the morning, we were fast asleep and the lights were off. "All of a sudden there was an almighty crash, and a rock flew through the bedroom window.

“It went straight across the room and hit the other wall. There was glass covering the bottom of the bed. “If the bed had been the other way round, it could have hit us, or the glass would have covered our faces.

"It could have been a murder, one of us might not have survived or could have been physically harmed.” The resident described the rock to have been as heavy as a cricket ball. They described the lasting impact the incident has had on them.

“We were stiff with shock. I didn’t expect anything like this in our area. Eighty percent of people in this area are OAPs, we moved here because we thought it was a peaceful area.

“I’m scared they are going to come back; I’m having trouble sleeping. Every noise keeps me awake. We’ve never had anything like this happen in this area before, why would these people pick on people like us?” A neighbour claimed to have heard teenage voices running away and laughing following the incident.

They also claimed car windows had been smashed and paintwork keyed in the series of attacks that night. Another resident, who was also targeted, described the incident as ‘scary’. They explained how they had initially believed the noise to be their cat.

However on closer inspection, they discovered the damaged window which the brick had been unable to smash through fully. They said: “These people have run rampage through Peacehaven and Telscombe. If the brick had gone through the window, it would’ve landed on my seven-year-old's head.

“He’s petrified. He now won’t go into his room. He doesn’t want to leave the house.

” A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Two people reported having an object thrown through their window in Peacehaven between 3.30 and 4am on Saturday (8 March). “One was at an address in Greenacres and the other at an address in Telscombe Road.

“Both had a smashed window and found stones or bricks. “Officers are following up lines of enquiry, but no suspects have been identified at present.” Anybody with information is asked to contact police online quoting serial 359 of 08/03.
