VALDEZ: Put emotions aside on immigration

Is it incumbent on us to employ critical thinking skills at a time such as this?

Is it incumbent on us to employ critical thinking skills at a time such as this? It seems the news cycle du jour is rife with triggers to our emotions. Adding implicit bias and division is the net result. This great experiment called America is turning 250 years old next year.

We are, without a doubt, the most mixed bag of race and culture in the world. Freedom is the lure. Our elected leaders and citizens overwhelmingly have something in common.

We welcome those who wish to be part of this great country. The divide is how that process is achieved and is now on full display. Now is the time to employ your critical thinking skills.

Resist those screaming “racist!” They are attempting to divide us. Giving leaders the benefit of the doubt who allowed hundreds of thousands to thwart our laws and processes is impossible due to the facts at hand: Almost no one crosses the border without payment to the cartels. Sex trafficking is huge business for the cartels.

We have lost more to illegal fentanyl than a conventional war. China and the cartels have facilitated this deadly scourge. There are approximately 424,000 children that have made the dangerous journey, some dying along the way.

Known terrorists MS13 and Tren de Aragua gang members have brought terror to our neighborhoods. Innocent U.S.

citizens including Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungary and Rachel Morin were viciously raped, tortured and murdered by illegal alien border crossers. Recently in California, undocumented youth soccer coach Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino was arrested for murder with special circumstances for leud acts with a child, felony assault with attempt to conduct a leud act, felony assault with attempt to commit a sexual offence upon a child. More victims are highly likely.

The past administration intentionally allowed record breaking numbers of unvetted people into our country. Border Patrol agents begged for resources and were ignored. Remember the lie that our heroes patrolling Texas were “whipping migrants?” No wonder the morale of the agents was at an all-time low.

We heard testimony that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was so overwhelmed that kids were treated like widgets on an assembly line and turned over to unvetted “sponsors” — 31,000 children were sent to invalid or incomplete addresses. Unfortunately, some subjected to sex trafficking, child labor and God knows what else. DHS and ICE cannot find the children.

They need to be found. Fast forward to 2025. Record low border crossings.

Self-deportations occurring. Vicious criminals, including gang members, are being arrested and sent to high security prisons. Illegal border crossings are down over 90% compared to the previous administration Now we are hearing what I call “immoral compassion” for those that broke our laws, terrorized our citizens, committed crimes, and are draining our resources, i.

e. lawyers, flights, schooling, housing, etc. There are those that want to stop the deportations, ICE raids and transfer of gang members to prison.

Appointed judges attempted to stop the process of removing these menaces to society. Thankfully, the Supreme Court just ruled allowing the deportation of criminal migrants under the Alien Enemies Act. A reminder — it is incumbent on the government to protect the homeland and its citizenry.

There is only one word for the net result of not following the law and processes — chaos. The fact is, immigration was the top issue for Americans in 2024 elections. We the people want folks to come in through the front door — legally.

Employ your critical thinking along with your emotional compassion..
