In an Amazon Prime documentary, titled Val, he opened up more about how his diagnosis changed his life including using a voice box to speak. ‘I obviously am sounding much worse than I feel.
I can’t speak without plugging this hole [in his throat]. You have to make the choice to breathe or to eat. It’s an obstacle that is very present with whoever sees me,’ he said at the time.
Kilmer was married to Joan Whalley – whom he met on the set of Willow – from 1988 to 1996 and they shared two children, Melissa and Jack. In 2012, Kilmer addressed his long absence from the screen, telling The Hollywood Reporter: ‘I don’t have any regrets. It’s an adage but it’s kind of true: Once you’re a star, you’re always a star; it’s just what level?’He reprised his role as Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in the Top Gun: Maverick in 2022Got a story? If you’ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.
