Tributes have been pouring in for Val Kilmer after he sadly died aged 65 . The actor, who starred in films such as Top Gun and Batman Forever , died on Tuesday after suffering from pneumonia, his daughter Mercedes Kilmer revealed. Following the news, actor Josh Brolin paid tribute to his friend on Instagram .

The No Country For Old Men star shared a picture of himself posing with Val and wrote, "See ya, pal. I'm going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker.



There's not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.

" Josh Gad also posted about Val's death on Instagram. He said, "RIP Val Kilmer. Thank you for defining so many of the movies of my childhood.

You truly were an icon." Stranger Things star Matthew Modine wrote on X, "RIP Val Kilmer. If it wasn’t for our chance encounter at the Source in 1985, I may never have been cast in FULL METAL JACKET.

Filmmaker Michael Mann told The Hollywood Reporter, "While working with Val on Heat I always marvelled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character. After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news.

" American author Don Winslow wrote on X, "Rest in peace VAL KILMER. A brilliant actor and a good man." Val's daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed his death in a statement to the New York Times .

She revealed he died at his home in Los Angeles. Val had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered. The actor underwent both radiotherapy and chemotherapy for his cancer.

He also underwent a tracheostomy procedure to create an artificial hole in this neck to help him breathe. Val enjoyed a lengthy career and was known for his role as Iceman in 1986's Top Gun. He also played Batman in the 1995 film Batman Forever.
