Top Gun and Batman star Val Kilmer has died at the age of just 65, his daughter has confirmed. Tributes have been pouring in for the Hollywood heavyweight, who starred alongside Tom Cruise in the 1986 blockbuster hit Top Gun. His daughter has now confirmed that the cause of his death was pneumonia.
Born in Los Angeles in 1959, Kilmer suffered tragedy early on in his life when his brother Wesley died aged just 15. Wesley had epilepsy and sadly drowned in a jacuzzi as a teenager. Kilmer confessed: "I didn't really get back to earth until about two or three years after my brother died.
It's like that Nickelback song, 'I'm sick of sight without the sense of feeling.'" He had his own cancer battle to contend with later in life, though he did recover. But the troubled star's legacy will live on.
