Val Kilmer said he loved one girlfriend more than the others he dated over the years. The Top Gun star, who has dated the likes of Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie and Cher , said his split from actress Daryl Hannah hurt him the most. Previously opening up about their relationship in his memoir titled I’m Your Huckleberry, he wrote: “Lord knows I’ve suffered heartache.

But Daryl was by far the most painful of all." In a swipe at Neil Young, who she went on to marry in 2018, he added: "Neil Young, I always loved you, but I’m afraid I hate you now." According to The Sun, the actor also said he "knew" he would love her with his "whole heart forever and that love has lost none of its strength".

In the 2020 book, he added: "I am still in love with Daryl. When we broke up, I cried every single day for half a year." Val and Daryl began dating after they worked together on the 2002 movie Hard Cash.

The following year, they were pictured putting on a loved-up display and holding hands at the Wonderland premiere in Hollywood. Val was previously married to the actress Joanne Whalley from 1988 to 1996. Together they share two children; 33-year-old daughter Mercedes and son Jack, 29.

On Tuesday, Mercedes announced that Val had died in Los Angeles, following a battle with pneumonia. The actor was also previously diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but later recovered. Tracheotomy surgery had an affect on his voice which sparked a step back in his acting career at the time.

He later returned to screens, most recently in 2022's Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise. Val previously credited Cher, who he dated in the 1980s, for helping him through some of his darkest days. He gushed: “Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves.

For her true friends, her steadfast love and loyalty never die." Reflecting on his cancer battle, he added: "I have been healed of cancer for over four years now, and there has never been any reoccurrence. I am so grateful.
