Preliminarydata from Uzbekistan's parliamentary election indicates that theMovement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – Liberal-DemocraticParty has garnered 34.75 percent of the votes, Chairman of theCentral Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan ZayniddinNizomkhodzhaev said at a press conference in Tashkent today,Trend reports.
In total, 5.19 million voters supported the Liberal-DemocraticParty, resulting in the allocation of 26 parliamentary seats. The "Milliy Tiklanish" Democratic Party received support fromapproximately 2.
81 million voters, translating to about 18.8percent of the total votes and earning 14 seats. The Ecological Party garnered around 1.
96 million votes,accounting for 13.1 percent, resulting in the allocation of 10parliamentary mandates. The People's Democratic Party received 2.
55 million votes,equating to 17.1 percent, and secured 13 seats. The Social-Democratic Party "Adolat" attracted about 2.
42million votes, representing 16.2 percent, resulting in 12parliamentary seats. To note, polling stations have opened in Uzbekistan for electionto the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of thecountry and to local kengashes (councils) of people's deputies onOctober 27 stations are open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM(GMT+5), with preliminary results expected on October 28.
Five parties are participating in the elections: the Movement ofEntrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal DemocraticParty, Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish," Ecological Party,People's Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party"Adolat." This year's elections are being held according to a mixedelectoral system in line with the updated Constitution and nationalelectoral legislation. This system provides for 75 members of theLegislative Chamber to be elected in single-mandate constituenciesusing the majoritarian electoral system, while the remaining 75members will be elected using the proportional representationelectoral system with party lists.
