On Saturday, two former Pac-12 rivals and first-year Big 12 additions faced off as Colorado hosted Utah. As expected, the Buffaloes emerged victorious with a 49-24 win at Folsom Field. The Utes have now lost six straight games for the first time in the Kyle Whittingham era - he became the head coach in 2005.

After questions about his availability, Isaac Wilson got the start at quarterback and struggled against a much-improved Colorado defense. The true freshman completed 21-40 passes (52%) for 236 yards. He threw two touchdowns but had three interceptions and fumbled twice, losing one.

Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Injuries derailed the 2023 season, but the health of this roster has somehow been even worse this year. The absences of wide receivers Money Parks and Mycah Pittman and tight end Brant Kuithe were felt on Saturday, and interim offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian has struggled to find consistency with an injury-ravaged group. After a promising 4-0 start to the season, the Utes are now 4-6.

They're in danger of failing to reach a bowl game for the first time in a non-COVID-shortened season since 2013. Whittingham has only finished with a losing record twice in his 20 seasons of coaching the Utes. It's back to the drawing board for this proud program, and fans are rightfully calling for significant changes heading into next season.

Whittingham already named defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley his successor, and if this is his last season in Salt Lake City, it would be a sad swan song for the legendary head coach. Related: Officials in Colorado-Utah Game Under Fire for Travis Hunter Penalty.
