Angge Poyos bounced back from a quiet 12-point effort in a five-set loss against La Salle with a season-high 27 points plus 15 excellent receptions and 7 digs as Cassie Carballo tossed 25 excellent sets with 4 points on 3 aces.Reg Jurado, however, was the clutch hero of the match as she had 20 points — 8 coming in the last 4 points of Set 4 and 4 more in Set 5 — hiked by 4 blocks and 18 excellent digs as the Tigresses endured a 36-point explosion off a staggering 32-of-104 attack clip from Adamson super rookie Shaina Nitura.Given a new lease on life in the fifth set after rallying from down 21-18 in the fourth, UST fired off a quick 4-0 start on the heels of Carballo aces and Adamson errors — a cushion that the Tigresses cared for until the late stages of the match despite Nitura’s herculean efforts to reignite Adamson’s fire.
The Lady Falcons only got within 3, 9-6, before the streaking Tigresses took turns burying their own kills to the tune of a 6-2 finish, ending with an emphatic Jurado block on Nitura to set the final score.Nitura’s 36 marked the third time she breached the 30-point barrier in her first 10 UAAP games as she eclipsed her 34-point debut and came 2 markers shy of tying her league record 38 points.Frances Mordi tried her best as the secondary star in the heartbreaking loss with a triple-double of 21 points, 19 excellent receptions, and 11 digs, but the reeling Lady Falcons continue their quest of finding anyone else to step up as middle blocker Jen Villegas was a far third in scoring with just 7 points.
