MALAPPURAM: Malappuram District Collector VR Vinod has issued an order prohibiting the use of laser beam lights, balloons etc in the free flight zone surrounding the Kozhikode International Airport. The Collector also banned the use of para-gliders, high-riser crackers, flares and kite-flying around the airport. The ban has been imposed given the possibility that the use of such objects may disrupt the navigation systems of aeroplanes and cause accidents.

The Collector said that the ban was imposed under Section 144 CrPC. The order also states that if anyone notices others using such objects with the intention of disrupting the landing, take-off and flying operations of any aircraft, they should report it to the nearest police station. The Airport Director and the District Police Chief had submitted a report to the District Collector stating that the use of such materials may cause accidents in the airport area and runway, pose a threat to the take-off and landing of aircraft and adversely affect the navigation system of the aircraft.
