USC and head coach Lincoln Riley have officially lost one of their most dynamic offensive playmakers and one of Riley’s top recruits since taking over the Trojans program. Sophomore wide receiver Zachariah Branch entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday night. However, one thing stood out about Branch's portal entry.
According to Pete Nakos at On3, Branch entered with a "do not contact" tag , signaling that he likely already has schools in mind for his next destination. Several top programs have already emerged as potential landing spots for Branch, including Miami, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Louisville. These programs are expected to make strong pitches to secure the services of one of the most dynamic playmakers in college football.
Branch was one of the most electrifying players for USC since joining the team. Over two seasons, he compiled 78 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns. Beyond his receiving abilities, he added versatility as a runner and special teams threat.
Branch carried the ball 11 times for 87 yards and one touchdown while also excelling as a return specialist, where he amassed 547 kickoff return yards and 406 punt return yards, each with a touchdown. His brother, Zion Branch, a defensive back for USC, also entered the portal on the same night but did not include the "do not contact" designation. As for Riley and the Trojans, they’ll need to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by the Branch bothers and others who have left for the portal.
