IMPERIAL — In order to strengthen institutional coordination and the ties of brotherhood among agents while setting up joint strategies to protect both sides of the border, officials with the Mexicali Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol Sector El Centro held a meeting at the USBP Headquarters in Imperial.

The meeting was led by the U.S. Border Patrol El Centro Sector Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino.

Mexicali Police Chief Luis Felipe Chan Baltazar was accompanied by his main officials in charge of the operational and strategic areas, the Mexicali Police Department said. During the meeting, Chief Chan and Patrol Chief Bovino agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation between the agencies to face the new security challenges in the border region. “We have worked together for many years, and I am sure that we will continue to do so with excellent results,” said Chief Bovino.

This first formal meeting between Gregory K. Bovino and Luis Felipe Chan Baltazar — in his capacity as Mexicali Police Chief — allowed for direct communication between the leaders of both agencies, which will strengthen the exchange of key information for the implementation of joint operations and the improvement of border security, the Mexicali Police Department said. Chief Chan Baltazar thanked the U.

S. Border Patrol for his willingness and confidence, highlighting the interest of Mexicali Mayor Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez to consolidate the bilateral relationship — especially in light of the challenges that may arise in terms of immigration in the coming days, the Mexicali PD said. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue developing coordinated activities in the short term and with the firm conviction that border security is a shared priority for both corporations, the police said.

This is not the first time leaders with both agencies meet. Former Mexicali Police Chief Pedro Ariel Mendívil also held meetings with Patrol Chief Bovino in the past three years..
