Donald Trump has flipped Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state with 19 electoral votes. This victory marks a major boost for Trump’s campaign as it has brought his total number of electoral votes yet to 265 as he strives to reclaim the White House and Vice President Kamala Harris in a tightly contested race. As it stands, Trump needs only 5 electoral votes to win the election.

Throughout the campaign, Pennsylvania saw close polling numbers, reflecting its importance to both parties. The state, once famously described by former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville as “Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between,” presented both candidates with regional challenges. Harris held strong in the urban centres of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, while Trump gained significant support in the state’s more rural and midstate areas, particularly in the districts represented by Republican Reps.

Glenn Thompson and John Joyce. Both Trump and Harris made multiple visits to Pennsylvania in a final push for votes. Trump notably rallied in Allentown, a key city analysed as an “EVEN” district by the Cook Political Report, while Harris focused on areas with historical ties to President Joe Biden, including Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.
