A Virginia court has acquitted Haroon Hakimi, a former Afghan diplomat and writer, of sexual assault charges, declaring the allegations baseless. Speaking to The Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, December 21, Hakimi revealed that the Virginia court jury had dismissed all his accusations. “I did nothing wrong, and the sexual assault allegation against me was entirely fabricated.
I am pleased that the court affirmed my innocence,” Hakimi stated. The allegations, made in March of this year, accused Hakimi of sexually assaulting a woman. At the time, Hakimi had already dismissed her claims as groundless.
The former government official expressed his intention to restore his reputation and pursue legal action against the accuser. He added, “We, as Afghans, must understand that character assassination and baseless accusations hold no weight in a country like the United States, where the rule of law prevails.” Hakimi previously held roles as a diplomat and deputy minister of information and culture in Afghanistan’s former government.
