GARY Rowett has praised the warrior attitude in the Oxford United squad as players get through the pain barrier in order to remain on the pitch.

Cameron Brannagan spoke after the 1-0 win against Sheffield United about dealing with the lasting effects of a knee injury, while Leicester City loanee Ben Nelson soldiered on with cramp in the closing stages against the Blades. U’s head coach Rowett has now said that centre back duo Ciaron Brown and Michal Helik, plus midfielder Will Vaulks, have all been experiencing niggly issues in recent weeks, but have fought on regardless. “Browny came back from international duty with a sore knee, but these are the sorts of things that happen during the week, and these are the sorts of things you’ve got to get through. “What I would say, Cammy is a great example, and Vaulksy is the same, we’ve got players who want to play. “Some clubs I’ve been at before, you’ll get players that make sure they look after themselves a little bit.

“I think we’ve got a really unselfish group who will put themselves out there. Cammy is one of those that even if he’s struggling, he wants to play. “I took him off at the weekend and he was saying he was fine, but you could see he wasn’t fine, but the reality is that’s the mentality we need.

“Young Ben as well will learn it’s a different type of game and a different type of scenario to have cramp with six or seven minutes to go, and still have to clear or head one out your box. “It’s part of learning and part of the experience, and thankfully we experienced it with three points at the end.”.
