It’s understood that United have spent a substantial fee to land the 24-year-old from FC Utrecht, and it’s likely to surpass the money spent on club record signing Siriki Dembele. The U’s paid short of £1 million to sign Dembele from Birmingham City at the end of August. A fee for Romeny of two million euros (£1.

6m) combined with a three-and-a-half-year contract was previously reported by Dutch national newspaper De Telegraaf. Romeny featured alongside United right back Hidde ter Avest at Utrecht, and can play in a number of attacking positions, including on either wing or up front. He began his career at NEC Nijmegen, where he had a loan spell at Willem II during the 2020/21 season.

Romeny then signed for FC Emmen in January 2022, and he scored 11 goals in 33 Eredivisie matches during the 2022/23 campaign. He switched to Utrecht in June 2023, and this season has scored two goals in 13 league appearances for the team currently third in the Eredivisie. In November, Romeny opted to represent the Indonesia national team.
