1 2 3 Prayagraj: Working on the concept of Waste-to-Wealth , the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to earn a revenue of Rs 53 lakh annually from garbage with the state's first biogas plant has been set up in Naini. It will start functioning before Maha Kumbh. Around 200 tonnes of wet garbage generated from homes, hotels, restaurants, and temples will be turned into 21,500 kg of bio-CNG and 209 tonnes of organic manure at this plant daily as a part of the Prayagraj RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) project.
The total capacity of the plant is to produce 343 tonnes, including 21.5 tonnes of Bio-CNG along with 109 tonnes of solid organic manure and 100 tonnes of liquid organic manure. In the first phase, the work of making Bio-CNG from 200 tonnes of municipal waste was completed and production of gas from remaining 143 tonnes of paddy straw and cow dung is in progress.
This plant will be operated on a PPP model. The PMC has allotted 12.49 acres of land near Arail Ghat in Jahangirabad, Naini.
The plant will be operated by a private company-Ever Enviro Resource Management Private Limited, and a contract for the same has been signed with the PMC for 25 years. Currently, about 1,250 units of electricity will be used every day for the operation of this plant. Plant Head, Himanshu, says, "The cycle of making Bio-CNG from waste is about 20 to 25 days.
At the beginning of the plant, about 30 tonnes of cow dung will be added per day to produce active bacteria. Once this process starts, cow dung will be used as per the need." Arrangements have also been made to carry the wet waste to the plant.
Officials said, "There is a plan to set up a 21.5-tonne per day Bio-CNG plant in two phases. Two digesters have been installed for the first phase, which will produce 8.
9 tonnes of Bio-CNG daily using only 200 tonnes of wet waste per day. In the second phase, the target has been set to produce the remaining 13.2 tonnes of Bio-CNG daily.
However, permission for this will be taken later by the plant operators." By converting organic waste into energy, around 56,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced every year. The plant has been built at a cost of about 125 crore.
Bio-CNG from this plant will also be supplied to industrial and retail customers in Uttar Pradesh, including Prayagraj. The project will also create employment opportunities for around 200 persons. Municipal Commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg said that the Bio-CNG plant will generate income for the corporation and will be a milestone in improving air quality.
