RAUB: Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairman Wilson Chang were detained today for investigations at the district police headquarters.The duo had earlier gone to provide their statements regarding allegations of obstructing public servants from discharging their duties during the 'Op Sekat' enforcement operation here last week.Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman confirmed that Chow and Chang were arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, they could face up to two years in jail, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.Yahaya urged the public to refrain from speculation over the arrests, stating that the action was taken in accordance with the law and due procedure."Do not spread unverified information regarding the arrest.
We urged all quarters to respect the rules and regulations as the police are still conducting investigations," he said.As of press time, the duo are still being questioned by the police accompanied by two lawyers. It is learnt that only Chow and Chang were called in by the police for questioning today while the three other individuals believed to be durian farmers were not present at the police headquarters.
Yesterday, Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman said Chow and four others would be called in for allegedly obstructing officers during the special operation targeting illegal land encroachment in the district.Last week, Chow along with the unhappy farmers had allegedly blocked the route to the unlicensed durian farms, to express their displeasure over the enforcement operation. However, the police and the General Operations Force managed to bring the situation under control.
