SUBANG JAYA: Police will identify the contractor responsible for construction works conducted near the site of the pipeline explosion and record a statement from the individual.

SUBANG JAYA: Police will identify the contractor responsible for construction works conducted near the site of the pipeline explosion and record a statement from the individual.District police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said they would also refer to the local council to determine whether the contractor had the necessary permit."We will also refer to Petronas to see if any permit was issued by them.

"We will identify the contractor involved and call them in for questioning," he told reporters today.Wan Azlan said this in response to various allegations that construction work on a shoplot near the pipeline was suspected to be behind the explosion.It was learnt that a contractor was involved in the construction of a shoplot in the vicinity of the explosion site.



He said for now their focus would be to record statements from the victims who are receiving treatment at various hospitals as well as displaced residents who are at the relief centres."To date, we have received 59 police reports involving individuals who reported damaged houses and vehicles as well as those who sustained injuries due to the incident," he said, adding that this was to facilitate further investigations into the incident.Yesterday, a massive fire broke out at a Petronas gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, causing widespread panic as flames shot up into the air.

The heat from the flames — visible from kilometres away — was said to have melted plastic and metal located within a wide radius of the pipeline.The fire was reported to have been accompanied by several explosions that shook the ground. The flames set off fires in several houses as the pipeline is located near residential areas.

A total of 112 people were injured and are receiving treatment in several hospitals.Firefighters extinguished the fire at 3.45pm and are now in the process of assessing the situation before they allow residents to collect their belongings and necessities from the affected houses.
