SUBANG JAYA: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has begun its investigation into the cause of the gas pipeline explosion at Putra Heights.District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the agency's probe, which began today, would also involve an evaluation of the integrity of the two remaining pipes.Speaking to reporters today, Wan Azlan said Petronas had also inspected the affected pipe to ensure that no gas remained.

"This means that it is now safe for restoration works to be conducted in the surrounding area."DOSH will also be looking into the integrity of the two remaining pipes."We want to know if these two pipes are in good condition or otherwise," he said.

Yesterday, a massive fire broke out at a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya. The heat from the flames — visible from kilometres away — melted plastic and metal located within a wide radius of the pipeline.Almost 400 people have been evacuated from nearby residential areas and are now being housed in temporary evacuation centres.

To date, 41 victims were being treated at government and private hospitals for various injuries, including severe burns from the blast and heat.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
