The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Beatrice and the surrounding area Saturday afternoon in advance of a winter storm sweeping through the Midwest. The warning is in effect from 3 a.m.
Sunday through midnight for Gage, Jefferson, Pawnee and Richardson counties. Total snow accumulation of 8 to 13 inches is expected with wind gusts up to 35 mph. The blizzard warning goes into effect after the previously declared winter storm warning, which the weather service modified to end at 3 a.
m. The storm should bring Beatrice its first measurable snowfall since March of 2024, according to the weather service. Anticipating the storm, the city on Friday declared a snow emergency from 5 p.
m. Saturday to 8 a.m.
Monday. Under a snow emergency, no parking is allowed on snow emergency routes in Beatrice to aid in snow removal — Court Street/U.S.
136, Sixth Street/U.S. 77; Lincoln between Sixth and 33rd, Grant between Sixth and Second, Ella between Sixth and Third, Third from Ella to Court, Beaver Avenue from Sixth to 13th, and Hospital Parkway and Northgate Boulevard for Beatrice Community Hospital access.

The weather service earlier this week issued a winter storm watch for Southeast Nebraska, including Gage and the surrounding counties, from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.
