Toyota will launch its first electric car in India next year; To be based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV Toyota has been consistently doing well in terms of sales figures in the Indian market. With some very popular models in its portfolio like the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Toyota Fortuner and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Japanese carmaker enjoys sheer trust amongst car buyers for its reliability as well as low maintenance cost. The company will expand its line-up with multiple new models scheduled to go on sale next year.

Let’s look at the upcoming Toyota SUVs in India next year. 1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder-Based 7-Seater SUV Toyota will launch the 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder next year.



The SUV will be based on the Grand Vitara 7-seater model codenamed Y17. Much like its Maruti Suzuki counterpart, the 7-seater SUV based on the Hyryder will be based on the familiar Global C platform and will sport a longer wheelbase to accommodate the 3rd-row seats. The three-row SUV will be powered by the familiar 1.

5 litre K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.5 litre strong hybrid 3-cylinder petrol engine which runs on Atkinson, paired with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery pack.

We can expect some updates to the design and cabin layout along with the addition of new features. 2. Toyota Fortuner Hybrid The mild-hybrid version of the Toyota Fortuner debuted last month in South Africa.

The SUV is powered by the familiar 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV diesel engine, paired with a 48V mild hybrid system, thus making it more frugal. As per Toyota, the Fortuner MHEV is 5% more fuel efficient than the regular Fortuner 2.

8 diesel. The power output figures stand at 201 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and comes with both 2WD as well as 4WD configurations.

As for its India launch is concerned, the Toyota Fortuner Hybrid is expected to debut next year i.e. 2025.

3. Toyota Electric SUV Toyota previewed the Urban SUV concept last year and it will be the brand’s first electric car for the Indian market. Based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX, the mid-size electric SUV will be launched in the second half of 2025, almost six months after the debut of its Maruti counterpart.

The Toyota’s upcoming electric SUV will sit on the 27PL skateboard electric architecture which will be shared with the eVX. In terms of dimensions, the EV SUV will measure 4,300 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, similar to the eVX. Under the hood, expect the Toyota Urban electric SUV to come with two battery pack options i.

e., a 48kWh unit with a claimed range of around 400 kilometres and the larger 60kWh unit will come with a claimed range of about 550 kilometres on a single charge. The electric SUV will likely get a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration in India.
