The video captures a middle-aged female teacher fast asleep on her chair inside the classroom. A video of a female schoolteacher from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has gone viral on social media, allegedly showing her asleep on a chair during class hours. The clip has sparked a wave of debate online, with social media users divided in their reactions.
While many condemned the teacher’s behaviour as irresponsible and unprofessional, others voiced concern about her well-being, questioning whether exhaustion or health issues may have played a role. The video shows the middle-aged teacher visibly in deep sleep, seated in a classroom, while a student records the incident. According to India Today, the incident took place at a Junior High School in Meerut’s Krishnapuri, where the assistant teacher is now under scrutiny.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Asha Chaudhary also reacted to the incident, stating that the matter is being looked into, and an inquiry has been initiated. Necessary action will be taken once the investigation is complete, she assured. Meanwhile, sharp reactions have been coming in from internet users.
One wrote, “She is a human being after all. It is possible that Madam sleeps late at night and has to wake up early in the morning to finish household chores, so it is natural for her to feel sleepy. Now it is a different matter that she is sleeping in school," while another added, “The education system in government schools in Uttar Pradesh is running at the mercy of God.
" Someone else commented, “It is possible that he is unwell! But the person who made the video viral will not be concerned about this; he may have some personal grudge or selfishness!!" One more asserted, “What is their compulsion? They are not fired from their job. They are taking 50-60 thousand rupees per month and are sleeping in school. Government schools are just a formality and employment for people like them.
" Earlier in 2024, another shocking video from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh incited the Internet’s anger. The viral clip from a government school shows a teacher sleeping on the floor in class while a group of students continue waving handheld fans at her. The students took turns to do the task, as the video shows.
Reacting to the same, District Basic Education Officer Rakesh Singh explained that the teacher had collapsed from the chair and the students were trying to help her as she needed medical attention..
