TAPAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) has retained the Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak, according to unofficial results.

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) has retained the Ayer Kuning state seat in Perak, according to unofficial results.Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, the Tapah Umno division secretary, garnered 9,325 votes, surpassing Perikatan Nasional's Abdul Muhaimin Malek, who received 4,848 votes, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia's K.S.

Bawani, who obtained 863 votes.The unofficial result was announced by Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who said that the party had won with a majority of 4,495 votes as of 7.50pm.



The by-election was triggered by the death of Umno's Ishsam Shahruddin, who died of a heart attack on 22 February.A total of 31,897 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballots in the by-election.In the last election, Ishsam won the state seat during the 15th General Election in November 2022, securing a majority of 2,213 votes in a five-cornered contest.
